Our new animation answers your questions about offshore wind farms

What is an offshore windfarm? How are offshore windfarms constructed and how much energy do windfarms produce?

These are some of the questions our research has highlighted, that people both locally to East Lothian and beyond, want to know about offshore wind farms.

Major infrastructure projects such as Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Farm require a great deal of planning, and part of that is building awareness about why we need to invest in offshore wind while keeping communities and businesses informed about the potential impact.

Located in the North Sea, in the outer Firth of Forth, Berwick Bank has the potential to deliver up to 4.1 GW of installed energy capacity, making it one of the largest green energy opportunities in the world. It would be a major contributor to Scotland's target of 11GW of offshore wind energy generation to help reach its net zero targets.

Berwick Bank would do more than just meet a target for Scottish energy production. The project aims to:

  • Generate enough electricity to power 6 million homes, twice over

  • Generate up to £8.3 billion for the UK economy

  • Deliver 4,650 potential jobs in Scotland and 9,300 potential jobs across the UK

To help us explain more about Berwick Bank, we have developed an animation to talk you through the project, highlight the impacts and opportunities for the local area, and how Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Farm will help Scotland deliver on its net zero targets.
